“… To make light present, to make it solid, the shadow is necessary. The proper combination of light and shadow often awakens in architecture the ability to move us deeply, tear us tears and summon beauty and silence … “Alberto Campo Baeza.
The proposal seeks to intensify the public nature of the building complex reason for this contest with the aim of converting it into a place of memory and congregation site.
We propose to work the memorial from two situations, the first is to open on the ground floor a public square of 7.80mts wide and 7mts high, which recovers the total length of the lot, being a place of memory, meeting, and of use and life. This space connects the supervening Jacaranda to the tragedy in the front of the land with the space of the association located as the culmination of this public / Memorial square and integrating completely from its folding carpentry system.
This public plaza contains on the side a pre-molded piece designed especially for each of the victims, with his name and a light figure, which are located longitudinally, in alphabetical order, accompanying the route from the street.
This space on the ground floor also functions as a public space from which all the different uses that the building complex houses are accessed.
The memorial is complemented by a generous patio that, based on the idea of emptiness, that puts in our memory the idea of absence, runs through the central section of the building, connected by two terraces facing the front and the counter-front, promoting thus a way of extending the memorial throughout the entire project, in a background or figure, full and empty.
This patio will generate an important input of light that through the terraces and balconies projected between the lattice and the carpentry will produce different phenomenological situations that will affect all the senses of the visitors, linking the idea of memory with life from the different uses of each specific place.
The building is understood as a cloak and as a mirror, as a mirror because it seeks to be a memorial that allows us to remember the tragedy that occurred, to each one of its victims, and that reflects us as a society and helps us to be able to conform as a better society. fairer. And on the other hand it has to act as a cloak, in the sense of being a shelter for life, where architecture must disappear and accommodate joy, music, the meeting between people, and use as a cultural and educational space.
