UTDT- Parabase Lecture

Pablo Garrido – PARABASE
Lecture at Proyecto II Studio, Universidad Torcuato Di Tella
September 8th, 2025

This lecture by Pablo Garrido, founding partner of PARABASE, was held within the framework of Project II directed by Ignacio Montaldo at Universidad Torcuato Di Tella.

PARABASE, established in 2023 by Carla Ferrando and Pablo Garrido Arnaiz after their professional experience at Herzog & de Meuron, Foster & Partners, Diener & Diener, and Miller & Maranta, combines architectural practice with research and teaching. The studio develops projects in Spain and Switzerland and maintains an active academic agenda, including teaching at Mendrisio, the Bauhaus Universität Weimar, and currently as Visiting Professors at ETH Zürich. Their work has been exhibited at the Venice Architecture Biennale and the Lisbon Triennale, and has received several international awards.

The lecture reflects on PARABASE’s current practice, with a focus on material reuse as a strategy to reduce the carbon footprint of buildings. This approach intersects with the studio’s ongoing research on the residential block as a medium-height, high-density collective housing type, explored through tectonic and thermodynamic perspectives, construction logic, typological organization, and urban integration — in direct dialogue with the course’s focus on collective housing.
